Vin: Lying on a couch in the living room, book in hand, Vin is reading
4 Apr 17, 09:20 AM
Char: Sliding into the room as though she had been moving too fast for anything else, Char's normally burgundy hair was flaming red, closely resembling her mother's. Magic crackled around her. "They're selling me off!" she ground out, conscious of many many listening ears.
4 Apr 17, 09:21 AM
Vin: Rolling his eyes, VIn rolled on his side and looked at her. "For how much?" He tilted his head.
4 Apr 17, 09:24 AM
Char: She was strangely unsurprised that he had chosen that as his first question. "No freaking clue. She sighed loudly and collapsed on his outstretched legs. "But somewhere in this house there is a contract with my name on it promising some pompous pureblood prat the rest of /my/ life."
4 Apr 17, 09:27 AM
[×]Vin: Vin pursed his lips a minute. "Well it won't make you feel better, but welcome to the family then. I've known I would have a contract since I was like ten." He tried not to smile at the 'prat' part. "If you think it would work I can give you a galleon to go try and buy your own contract from them."
4 Apr 17, 09:33 AM
Char: She turned her head to narrow her eyes at him. "Right, but that makes sense, making sure the line continues, all that...." She trailed off, but only briefly. "I however can't pass on anything so what's the point?" She picked up something small from the table at the end of the couch and tossed it half-heartedly at his head. "I don't think a galleon would do it" she admitted.
4 Apr 17, 09:36 AM
Vin: He shook his head. "Of course you do. You will make someone else's line exist. Duh." He caught it and set it on the floor. "Oh I'd give a galleon for you. But come on, Char, you're the oldest. Didn't you realize this was coming if you didn't have someone lined up yourself?"
4 Apr 17, 09:42 AM
Char: She wrinkled her nose at the idea. "i'm not even sure I /want/ kids" she argued. "Not all of us can be mom." Bitter at having her life path taken out of her hands, and with the pervasive image of life as a pureblood trophy foremost in her mind, she glared at the wall. "I knew it was possible" she acknowledged, "but I hoped..." The sentence trailed. "I can't be some aristocrat's trophy, Vin. I mean literally can't. I'll die." Dramatic, but it's how she felt in the moment.
4 Apr 17, 09:44 AM
[×]Vin: Shaking a head at her he said "You do fine with the kids in this house. Besides, if you get a rich guy you can have a nanny take care of the bad parts." She spoke about being a trophy and he sat up, putting the book aside and patting the couch beside him. "Here, sit her with me a minute."
4 Apr 17, 09:49 AM
Char: "Of course" she sounded distracted. "But that's not the same as..." As being totally responsible for another life, as being 'mom'. She didn't say it,but the thought hung in the air anyway. Shifting to allow him to move, she obligingly moved so that she could sit beside him. "Unless you're about to tell me your genius plan to kidnap me and send us both across the globe, I'm not sure what could make this better, Vin."
4 Apr 17, 09:52 AM
Vin: he nodded. "I know, you don't want it. You've always made faces at the mention of your own, Char." He put an arm around her brotherly then poked at her nose. "Look around, sis, see the big house? The expensive house? How many people do you think have something like this? Huh? None? Five?"
4 Apr 17, 10:00 AM
Char: He opked her nose, and she smiled in spite of herself before responding in kind and poking him in the ribs. She glanced around when he mentioned the house, but merely shrugged. Yes, the house was huge and beautiful, but it was home and she was somewhat desensitized to its grandeur. "A few?" she hazarded after a moment.
4 Apr 17, 10:02 AM
[×]Vin: "Very few. We got lucky, sis, big time. Most people have about five rooms. And you know, there's a price for this. Not just marriage, but how we show ourselves to the world, the examples we make for others. They want to look and say 'There goes a class act' when they see us around. You can be really cool, but you don't think much about semblances I know."
4 Apr 17, 10:05 AM
Char: She frowned, "but you're the only one who'll get to keep it" she pointed out. "As soon as I graduate I'll be off to..." She gestured indistinctly elsewhere. "Wherever." She smirked at his class act comment. "Be honest, it's mostly because you want the head boy post" she teased him, relaxing a fraction.
4 Apr 17, 10:09 AM
Vin: He scoffed at her. "Keep it safe for everyone you mean. You know you can't resist dropping in on me to tease me and brag about what you've done. You know I only wanna get out on the road. I wouldn't choose this, but I will for family." He let that sit out there a moment before he added "The head boy thing is for dad more then me. I already know I'm the best." He looked smug. "But the business that comes with this is what makes all those clothes you avoid and money you have possible."
4 Apr 17, 10:17 AM
Char: She gave him a meaningful look. "Of course I will, if I can. I have no idea where I'll be or with who" she reminded him. "What if he's controlling?" She shuddered, "or just an @ss." She stopped for a moment, grudgingly conceding his point. "I like clothes" she argued, "as long as they're tight enough." Things that hung or flapped annoyed her. Though her brother had discovered the world of steampunk and fallen for the mechanical aspects, Char had fallen madly for the fashions.
4 Apr 17, 10:20 AM
[×]Vin: He gave her a look which said 'are you kidding me.' "Oh come on, Char, are you your mother's child or what? I expect you will make a deal with whoever he is right off the bat, what he wants for your freedom to do stuff at least some. Besides, telling him he doesn't get much connection if he doesn't bring you to remake your impression on us all again is hardly going not make a point. I know you better then that." He threw both his hands up. "You say that, but I think you like underwear more then is healthy."
4 Apr 17, 10:23 AM
Char: She laughed, "there is always that option" she agreed. "Still, I wish I knew what I was up against." Then a thought struck her. "Could you find out for me? If I know who he is at least I can try to prepare myself a bit." She grinned at his underwear jibe. "Only because going around naked all the time is frowned upon in this part of the world" she pointed out, pulling a face at him as she did so to make it clear she was kidding.
4 Apr 17, 10:26 AM
Vin: He caught her hand and squeezed it. "If I hear anything. It's not the way contracts work though. Guys are given a choice between two or three contracts I think. That's what happened to Davis. Beyond that, depends on who thinks your contract looks interesting really." A shake of his head. "I'm sure your husband won't mind that," he laughed
4 Apr 17, 10:32 AM
Char: Her expression brightened. "Maybe I won't get chosen" she sounded hopeful. "If no one accepts my contract then I'm free right?" She squeezed back, only to swat at him for the husband comment. "Husband...jeeze" she rolled her eyes.
4 Apr 17, 10:34 AM
[×]Vin: He shrugged; it was possible after all. "I don't know how long they stay available true." He grinned at her then held up a finger. "If I find out anything, then you owe me the same when mine comes up. If the girls are at school, you have to get the goods on them from the dorms. Use your connections, you hear?"
4 Apr 17, 10:38 AM
Char: Feeling better, or at least more hopeful, she nodded. "Consider it done" she exhaled. "Thanks Vin" She leaned in and gave him a quick hug. "I knew you'd either cheer me up or help me hide the evidence when I blew something up."
4 Apr 17, 10:40 AM
Vin: "Good." She might find out stuff better then he could from the females in the dorms. "Pff. That's what family is for." A thoughtful look crossed his face. "Hmm, maybe if I offer to pay dad to let me pick the guy for you instead...." His eyes showed naughtiness.
4 Apr 17, 10:42 AM
Char: She laughed, "think he'd risk it?" She could imagine the sort of guy Vin might choose for her. "As long as he's not some middle eastern billionaire with his head up his arse...I'll manage."
4 Apr 17, 10:45 AM
[×]Vin: He shook his head. "Probably not, but he might let me have control of your future for a galleon." He winked. "Head on shoulders, right. Odd, I would have thought you would be more concerned with the one in his pants..."
4 Apr 17, 10:48 AM
Char: She considered it, then shook her head. "If you managed it I'd be really impressed" she informed him. She laughed, "Right, but I prefer to vet those myself" she winked back. Her shoulders relaxed and she shrugged. "Ah well, guess I'll wait and see who he is before I make a plan at least."
4 Apr 17, 11:13 AM
[×]Vin: He polished his nails on his chest, then considered her words. "You could make a list of what you are willing to trade you think a guy might be tempted by. Most of your school mates may be good inspiration for that. Then you will have ideas of what you might tempt someone with."
