17 Feb 15, 12:05 AM
Ally: She steps inside the front door, pausing in the entry to take a deep breath, saturating herself with all things home. There is a slightly bewildered look in her eyes as though she still has not recovered from some major shock. Aiden had left in the wee hours of the morning, and Ally had barely waited for the what could be termed a decent hour before apparating home.
17 Feb 15, 12:19 AM
Lindsey: In the kitchen, Lin was informed by Abraham and nodded, turing and stepping as Abraham made it easy for her to be in one step in the entryway. "Ally! Come for a visit? I've got russian tea!" Of course it was instant but she wasn't going to say that, Ally knew it.
17 Feb 15, 12:21 AM
Ally: She was a little surprised when it was her grandmother's voice to greet her from the kitchen. "Hi Ma. Tea would be great. She stepped into the kitchen and dropped her bag in a chair. Looking delighted but slightly confused, she added. "I thought you had a wizzy thing this week? Mom said you probably wouldn't be around until the weekend."
17 Feb 15, 12:24 AM
[×] Lindsey: Lin grinned and let her granddaughter cheat by flowing her back through. One had to keep encoraging the kids after all! "Commute. Closer then they told me at first. So what are you doing this week? Anything special going on?" Lin let the door close behind them and walked over, scooping some russian tea into two mugs and pouring hot water from the kettle.
17 Feb 15, 12:26 AM
Ally: A small thrill at being allowed this small cheat, she accepted the mug and took a deep breath, letting the warmth seep into her fingers and spread through her. "Nothing special really, I just...I needed to come home. Things are...confusing...and not in the fun chaotic way."
17 Feb 15, 12:29 AM
Lindsey: Grandmother radar going off, Lin handed her the mug and slipped her a hug. "Ah well if that's all, sit down and tell me about it, love, you know I'll listen."
17 Feb 15, 12:31 AM
Ally: Thank Merlin for small favors, she thought as she managed to fall into a chair in a manner that appeared both haphazard and somehow graceful. "I ran into Aiden in France" she figured the beginning was an easy enough place to start. "Celeste is expecting twins and his mom called him home." She wasn't really sure how to explain the next part. "He left my flat a few hours ago. I came home as soon as I could get everything together. A...A lot's happened I guess."
17 Feb 15, 12:35 AM
[×] Lindsey: hearing the boy's name brought a smile to Lin's face which her kids and grandkids had never seemed to totally figure out. "Oh?" She pulled up a chair and sat down across from her, putting her tea on the counter beside her. "So, when exactly did you meet him? And you weren't expecting him it seems." Wonder if she is thinking of something for the future...
17 Feb 15, 12:41 AM
Ally: "Exactly. Oh." Ally sighed, "I was getting breakfast after my last rehearsal before the break, and he was just...there. In the bakery like the universe had planned it that way or something." She wrinkled her nose. "He looks different...taller and...well just different." She looked as though she was remembering for a moment. "I showed him the apartment and he invited me over the next day, says I need to visit his parents since I live so close." She let out a puff of a breath. "That's when things got complicated...at his parents' the next day."
17 Feb 15, 12:44 AM
Lindsey: She nodded. "That's the age the boys start growing all over. Proportionately." A fond smile at a memory. "Ah well, that was nice of him to make you feel welcome. So how complicated are we talking? Did you say something wrong?"
17 Feb 15, 12:56 AM
Ally: Used to her grandmother by now, Ally merely grinned. "So I've heard" but then she hesitated, clearly not having processed herself what she is about to share. "We're talking declarations of undying love and promises he'll be back for me." Ally dropped her head on the table. "Of all the things for him to be passionate about" she mumbled without raising her head.
17 Feb 15, 01:00 AM
[×] Lindsey: Lin wasn't fooled, but she winked anyway. She had no doubts Ally had been with a guy at least somewhere along the way. "In front of his parents or just at his parent's place? How did they react?" She reached over and patted Ally on the leg. "Ah, so you did get his pants off him then. That's good..."
17 Feb 15, 01:03 AM
Ally: While she had little doubt her grandmother knew better, it was still better to be able to deny everything if it came down to it in her opinion. "Just at the house. I can't imagine what his parents would have said. His mother might have had a heart-attack, and his father barely reacts to anything." Her eyes widened slightly at the sudden shift, but she didn't lie. "Yes, which brings us back to complicated."
17 Feb 15, 01:08 AM
Lindsey: Lin raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure most parents hear their sons talk about being in love Ally, surely they have heard that before. They do have two boys, right?" When Ally admitted it, Lin gave her an approving nod. "Yes well that would be where you encoraged him for sure, nothing gets young men focused like a little fun." She shrugged however. "I'm wondering why you think that makes it complicated. One can be wild and still have a family, you know," she wondered if Ally really got that.
17 Feb 15, 01:13 AM
Ally: "Yes" she finally lifted her head. "Max is married with kids, but I'm not sure they ever expected it from Aiden. I didn't until it happened really. He's just so...calm...ALL the time." She said it like it boggled her. She hesitated a long moment and then decided to be honest. "Did not, we've been having sex since during school, so why NOW of all bloody times when we're on different continents?" She considered the next part carefully. "Because in order to be wild AND have a family, you have to marry the right person." She sighed, "Aiden doesn't have a wild bone in his entire body. Every risky thing he's ever done has been because of me. I don't think he has any idea what he's getting into."
17 Feb 15, 01:25 AM
[×] Lindsey: She shrugged; males were often males, just maybe more hidden then others. ""SOunds perfect. A calm center so you can stay wild like you like I know." To some degree Osiris was that for her, but not too calm. A frown. "Probably because you are out of school I would think. Did you do anything or say anything to make him think your feelings had changed any or that you were more, I don't know, stable?" Lin suddenly picked up her tea and sat back, sipping once. "You said he went to China? What for?"
17 Feb 15, 01:29 AM
Ally: They way her grandmother put it, it sounded so simple, but the actual practice was more complicated Ally was sure. "He's definitely that" she was forced to admit. She snorted, "stable, probably not. Interested..." She bit her lip, looking like her mother as she did so. "I might have said a few things." Surprised by the next question, she glanced up. "To study under a martial arts master. I think he's working on his teaching credentials."
17 Feb 15, 01:38 AM
Lindsey: Lin's eyes laughed. "Ah ha, so you might have 'expressed yourself' the right way? Now I wonder how much of that was accident and how much was your mind speaking up for you? Any guesses?" Ally spoke about what he had been doing and she nodded as if you could hear the 'uh huh.' "Des he had family out there? Friends?"
17 Feb 15, 01:42 AM
Ally: Ally nearly stuck her tongue out, nearly. "I got caught up in the moment and said more than I meant to" she clarified. "I shouldn't have done it." She shook her head, "not that I know of. He spends all of his time training and learning new skills. I get the impression from his letters he doesn't get much personal time."
17 Feb 15, 01:49 AM
[×] Lindsey: Lin's eyes grew sharp. "Meant to? Maybe that's what you need to clarrify first. How do you feel about him, I mean. Is he a possible future or just someone to play with?" Another nod. "So he went to the far end of the earth to follow a dream then where he has no one he knows and you think he hasn't ever done anything risky that you weren't the cause of? So then, what did you do to cause him to go there..." She watched Ally's face carefully as she sipped.
17 Feb 15, 01:54 AM
Ally: "Aiden's my best friend" she reminded her grandmother. "Always has been, or at least, since we started school. Of course he's not just someone to play with, but I can't see marrying him either, or maybe its just I can't see marriage in general really." She stared at her grandmother for a moment. "Okay, maybe not everything but most of them. He feels the same way about martial arts that I do about dance, maybe even more so, and he's good, really really good."
17 Feb 15, 02:00 AM
[×] Lindsey: Technically she hadn't answered the real question there. "All right," she patted her leg again, "what's the issue with marriage then? Maybe we can break this down into easier to follow bits." Young people always fell into absolutes and black and white thinking. The world simply did not work that way. "So you know you absolutely have nothing to do with his decision to go that far away? Surely there are Chinese teachers here."
17 Feb 15, 02:03 AM
Ally: "Marriage is...its one person...for...well hopefully forever. I've never done that before, I'm not even sure I'd know how." She nodded slowly, considering. "Nothing" she confirmed. 'Its been his dream since...well since we started talking about dreams at least." Ally shrugged, "probably, but Aiden wanted a master, maybe even a specific one. He worked really hard to be chosen. I don't think it happens very much."
17 Feb 15, 02:09 AM
[×] Lindsey: "No." Lin shook her head. "Marriage is a partnership in which both people help the other person grow and get support for their own dreams at the same time. You don't go into marriage for a pre-set time in your head, you go into marriage because you want to. Don't think about time, Ally, no one can predict what will happen over time so don't limit yourself." She shook her head, as if worried about her some. "Once you start trying to see thing as predictable you throw away a lot of the good in the world 'just cause,' and that's no good. You are smarter then that. Osiris and I never set ourselves limits, we played the hand as it came to us. And having him around to back me up has been one of the best experiences in my life! Hell, I used to think I wouldn't even have a year with him..."
