She mentioned how she loved surprises and his eyebrows might have crept up a tad; so, it was getting that far in? He had to admit surprise; it wasn't what he would have expected from her, but she was blushing as well. The fair though was one he couldn't have resisted. "Oh well there I was really safe. See, there are a lot of muggles who don't understand how they work either so asking details works pretty easy. They told me what books to get, told me what kind of stuff I was looking for, and I was able to get the stuff to assemble a bike with. So right now I have the bike dad bought me and I'm making my own right now."
He grinned, very very satisfied at the idea of his own bike being finished. "Yeah with all the magic stuff I've been working into it it's going to be way safer to begin with. I can hardly wait to get it up and running!" And then things went from up to down, badly so. She continued to say it was short term, shouldn't have mattered, but he was so bothered he couldn't see the good in it. "Oh I see. Still waiting to see where this was going?" That stung; she still wasn't ready to believe? He warred with himself over that point for a moment, but hadn't reached a conclusion by the time they continued. By then maybe his point had gotten through and she admitted being wrong.
That changed things tremendously. While not relieved, his breath blew back out of him at once, a narrow point having been avoided for him. "How could I be anything but proud you tried?" He put a hand on both of her shoulders and looked her close in the eye. "Keela, I don't put my trust in just anyone. I spent the last year trying to be here for you because I want this to be, us. I've put all this time into it because I care. Do you understand that?" His eyes softened a tad, but he didn't show it the rest of the way yet. "I told you I would be straight up honest with you, whatever you ask. I mean that. But that comes with a price attached which says I expect you to be honest with me too."
One hand came free as he rubbed the back of his head for a moment, suddenly sheepishly. "Maybe I should have said that before, that I didn't expect you to drop bombshells on me either, but oh well, that's past. And okay, you didn't see this as lying cause you weren't invested yet." That seemed to bother him the most, but after a second struggle, he continued. "It hurts me we have come this far and you aren't yet, makes me feel like I've failed to show you how much I care or something. What more do I need to do to convince you, Keela?" He waited for an answer, wondering if she even knew how close this had come; trust was, for him especially, a very tight issue. You had to trust family, entirely. That was all there was to it.
"In answer to your question, no, I wouldn't have been disappointed in you. I would have been angry at them for failing to see what an opportunity they have in you. Seriously. I know you, Keela; you are bright and talented and tough. You have a great future and I can see that, but there are so many blind people out there who don't wake up enough to listen to what you tell them that I kind of expect others to not follow through on the best chances. If you applied to something, I would expect you put your heart into it, did your best job possible." He pressed his forehead against hers, his eyes not budging a moment. Now he looked more relaxed in the eyes, more at ease with this. "To love someone is to support them in everything, Mova. Do you believe I love you?"
